CRAZY number of ruins on this map (over 100) and a lot of cities (117). It's clearly only suitable for very large scale games (6-8 players) as otherwise management of units becomes tedious.
It will be interesting to see how the 4 middle spots perform compared to the 4 corners since the middle ones have slightly fewer cities due to the ring cities around those rivers being easier for corner players to reach.
The only downside is limited production. Something I feel isn't well suited to big maps like this where there is endless money and players should be able to spend it as they see fit. Warbarons has a hard time with balance once map makers start limiting production beyond maybe a couple of units per city. What happens is that it unbalances someplace else in that a certain unit/tactic becomes unbeatable because it's counter is limited/impossible to get.
In this map for example you can see how the Barb is going to get out of hand. Lots of strong neutral defenders in cities and on the map. But very few of them with ambush. So the Barb will level up fast and once he reaches the 65 strength with flight he'll simply walk all over the map unchallenged until he meets an enemy assassin. But until then his expansion vs all other heroes is a no brainer.
