SnotlinG,

It would be nice if L3 ruins couldn't possibly give less gold than L1 ruins. That doesn't make much sense. Some overlap between L1 and L2 and L2 and L3 is fine of course.

Something like

L1: 106-700 gold (100+6*D100)
L2: 306-2100 gold (300+6*D300)
L3: 805-3300 gold (800+5*D500)

Where D100, D300, D500 means a random dice roll between 1-100, 1-300, 1-500 respectively. This will give a more bell shaped distribution instead of a purely random one.

Please no.. 306-2100? L2 ruins are rather easy.

L1: 300-750
L2: 750-1500
L3: 1500-3000

Yes, level 2 ruins are much easier to deal with than than level 3s. Save the really big payoffs for level 3 ruins.

Other than a few crazy items, I have been a little underwhelmed by the rewards for level 3 ruins. I don't think too many players are willing to gamble (at long odds) with a level 3+ hero. If you want to keep your hero relatively safe, you need UL in (at least) the high twenties. That amount of UL can be generated by either: a very powerful hero (who should probably be busy crushing your enemies), or a mid level paladin with a stack of ghosts/wizards. Either way it took a fair bit of effort to get your UL lore up to snuff, and the rewards should reflect this.

IMO, a single archon or <1000 gold (my two most frequent finds) are generally not worth the time and effort.

I think a single ally (one elemental, medusa, archon, green dragon, demon or devil) should be a possible find in a level 2 ruin. A single wizard should be a possible find in a level 1 ruin. Save the red dragon and multiple allies (3-6 wizards, 2-4 elementals or medusa, 2-3 archons or devils or GDs, 1-2 RDs or Grand Archons) for the level 3 ruins.

The gold amounts Lichking proposes seem about right to me.

My numbers were meant to be more representative of the idea that I want a bell shaped reward amount rather than a pure random number. I'm fine with your values if they require multiple dice rolls to generate (so the L1 ruin would be for example 150+4D100 yielding a range of 154-750).

I am also not so sure L2 ruins are *that* easy at 21 to get 100% success. A L3 Paladin still requires 6 UL from 6 Scouts or 3 Wizards or 2 Ghosts. A Valkrie/DK needs to be at least L5 before thinking of searching a L2 ruin and even then still needs quite a bit of help. I'd like to see the L2 defenders get a bit tougher (increase by 1 more skeleton/Ghoul/Mummy to the existing random numbers) and the dice number increased to 22 (so it would be 12, 22, 32 for L1-L3)

Magican,

1 Archon can turn an entire game especially on a smaller map with fewer cities/resources to build one. So don't dismiss the Archon (assuming it's the Grand one and not the lesser one). But I agree <1000 gold is a joke for a L3 ruin.

I think a single ally (one elemental, medusa, archon, green dragon, demon or devil) should be a possible find in a level 2 ruin.

I've gotten 2 Elementals several times in a L2 ruin. Also gotten 1 Ghost. So not sure what you are finding in L2 ruins. I think 2-3 Wizards in a L2 ruin would also be a good reward or 2 Sand Worms or 2 Demons. Basically non-stack bonus units.

A single wizard should be a possible find in a level 1 ruin.

I'd veto the Wizard in a L1 ruin. Too easy to get one on turn 1-2 and then run wild with it over the map razing enemy cities on smaller maps. I think L1 ruins are fine without allies especially since there will be mercenary buildings in Beta5.

Save the red dragon and multiple allies (3-6 wizards, 2-4 elementals or medusa, 2-3 archons or devils or GDs, 1-2 RDs or Grand Archons) for the level 3 ruins.

L3 ruins should yield stack bonus unit allies only. 1-2 Red Dragons, 2-3 Medusa, 2-3 Archons, 1-2 Grand Archons, 1-2 Devils, 2-3 Unicorns.

Two other thing I'd like to see as as potential rewards:

1) A hero (L1 in L1 ruin, L3 in L2 ruin, L5 in L5 ruin)
2) Skill points (+5 in a L1 ruin, +10 in a L2 ruin, +20 level in a L3 ruin)

KGB,

The archon I was referring to was indeed of the lesser variety. Still nothing to scoff at, but a little underwhelming for a level 3 ruin.

Otherwise, I was just nodding in agreement while reading your last post.

wouldn't it be much attractive to invent new allies you get from ruins? or some skelletons, ghouls, a mummie or vampire joins you. just an idea :-)
