In a 2v2 tournament I would prefer *none* of the games be ladder games.

The reason being that players would then be free to team up with someone they aren't on a team with.

This could be new type of competition with mixed teams.
As I know Snotling said that the game should be for ladder for he could mark it like tournament game. I don't know more details about this. If it's possible to make tournament games non-ladder, why not.
This way we could get whole three types of team competition: real teams, mixed teams, teams with players from the same country (world cup).

Snotling confirmed that tournament games should be ladder games, it's technically impossible to do other way.
If to count this, only tournament with real teams is possible of those called three.

So can only 2 people represent each team? As smursh pointed out, what would happen when players from the same team get matched up against each other?

Right now it would only be possible for 2 players from the same team to play. The system that I'm working on will match teams against their own team so all players in a team can play in a 2v2 tournament.

Why can't play with any number of players?
For example, if some teams will be registered, which have different number of players such as 4 players (team 1), 2 players (team 2) and 8 players (team 3), then team 2nd vs 1st and 3rd can play only 2x2 game but team 1st vs 3rd can play 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4, or even all these 3 games and to win in such match means the same as to win in match of single 2x2 game vs 2nd team.
This way team mates would not play each other. One team can register in the tournament only once.

If you can avoid playing your own team it works but you can't host a game where the same team is on both sides.

Is there an estimated time frame for that system to be in place? I would assume it would result in 0 points added/removed from that team in the ladder system?

Will be a short tournament. Only about 10-11 teams are active. Assuming not all will enter it will be an 8 team torunament, so 3 rounds basically.

If teams cannot play each-other why 2x2. Most of the active teams have 4 players, why not a 4x4 so more can be involved?

Or why not just wait until Piranha fixes things in the next update? I'd love a 2v2 tourney but if only 5-6 teams compete in total it's a waste of time. Plus there are other tourneys that can be done in the meantime.

I still wish you could partner with anyone for a 2v2 tourney and not just a teammate. It would be fun to be able to partner with someone you don't normally play with (like All-Star games, World Cup etc).
