Hi,
I am player 1 in game 21100. I pick my hero, pay for it, the money is taken from the account but the hero does not appear and my only armies are sitting inside a neutral city.
When I login again I get the hero message again and all my money is still there.

I see units in a neutral city when viewing this game as well. Is this related to Piranha appearing in the stats as a non-entity with zero units/cities/gold? Is the game refusing to initialize because one player has no starting location?

There was a bug in the startup code for FFAs > 4 players.
Bug has been fixed and game has been restarted as "v08_ffa_test5"
