Units separated

Postby LPhillips » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:05 am

Hi,

I have something odd to report. I had a horselord+Sandworm, running around in my opponent's backfield and burning everything on a poor map. Guaranteed victory, yada yada. He prodded me with a scout, and then this turn when I moved my horse lord came separate and attacked alone. I've never separated them at any point, so I want to know what could possibly have caused this. I would let it go, but I've seen it happen before. A single unit attacks on the opponent's turn, then on the following turn your units are separated. I've seen that all the way back to Beta3, though it's very inconsistent. I've ignored it previously because I believed it was probably just my error, but this time it cost me pretty dearly (dead Horse Lord instead of guaranteed victory). At least for my peace of mind, could the way that data is logged and stored be explained, so I can be sure I'm screwing up, and it's not a bug? Isn't the bug I have described impossible?

The game is 23233; I'll hold until you let me know if you need it or not.
Thanks!

This is definitely a bug. All my stacks are separated in my game with Mr Bofa on Strongholds too. I've done no grouping/ungrouping, and my orders to defend/stack/etc are all removed. What I did here was leave and then return without ending the turn. It's not the usual thing with just changes made during the turn unsaved. Could this all have to do with hitting F5 earlier to fix a bug in another game?

I think it is 2 diffrent things you are experiencing.

1. Stack attacked during opponents turn always means the stack is ungrouped. This is something I might look into, but it has been working like this since beta2, due to problems with an attacked city for example where you lose a few units from diffrent stacks. But I think this is an area that I can improve on in 0.9 version

2. Grouped units that do not move the same turn, and units that are set into defend mode save their status to the server when you hit END TURN. So if you hit F5 in the middle of your turn that data will be lost. I think you should be able to use the SAVE GAME option to save this. I havent verified it works though :-)

SnotlinG,
Further on 2., but something different: if you group units and do not move them after grouping them, they are not grouped anymore the next turn. This is annoying if you have e.g. units in a city, group them but don't want to put them on Defend but just let them Stay till next turn. The next turn you have to group them again. Is it hard to implement that a Grouping is also "remembered" if you don't move the grouped stack anymore that turn?
Thanks!

Maze, it should already work that way. But the grouped status should be saved when you hit end turn, so if you make a group and then leave the game to finish your turn at a later time, the group you made will be forgotten by the game... Are you sure you have made a group and hit end turn and the group is lost next turn? If so its a bug, let me know how to replicate :-)
