Ships cutting through land

Postby KGB » Sun Jul 11, 2010 12:50 am

I've found that ships can cut through corners of land.

Attached is a screen shot showing how the move path will let me cut through the corner of land masses (which the game does let me do).

Is this by design?

Yea, I admit it looks a bit funny, but ships can sail on all shore-tiles, so if you build the map like that, the ship will be able to move over the shores to the other side. On the other hand, as it is shore-tiles, no land unit will be able to move out there.

SnotlinG,

Actually you *can* move out there. That last outer square is a land square. So by diagonal movement you could move out there if you wanted.

It means if you had a narrow passageway joining 2 island that boats could sail through land :)

I dont think it is possible to move to that square on the screenshot, it looks like it is surrounded by shore-tiles. But I think it is possible to build a map where it would be possible.

Thats how the Vikings did it, moving boats on logs over short distances of land :D
