"Target has changed"

Postby Negern » Thu Apr 18, 2013 4:32 pm

I believe I've found one of the things that causes this to happen. When one has the window left open after making a turn and the other players does their turns, the "it's your turn"-window pops up when it's gone the whole way round again. Then, when trying to attack the enemy stacks, they have the same fight order as they had when the players were using them - not the defend order. = "target has changed". When reloading window, it's no problem to attack, it's defend order and things work as they should. So an auto update to the page after clicking "ok" on the "it's your turn"-button would fix some of the "target has changed"-problems.

Edit:

But it's strange. It doesn't work every time, just some of the times.

Edit again:

Looks like it's only when it's units that are in view (of a unit, city, tower etc) and also changes some of the fight order during defend and attack. Also, if they enter boats or defense towers, it will be the same thing (most of the time).

+ when vectors reach a full city, they are placed outside - sometimes on ridges, rivers etc.

But I'm sure this was a 0.91 game. Gamename: CGP12 , don't know which game id it had.

Good spotted!
I have fixed most of the issues with this now. The problem was that after move and/or battle, the incorrect top-unit was sent out to watching clients, it was sent based on attackorder and not on fightorder. This has been fixed now. I think this should make the "target has changed" much less frequent

I still have some things left to do regarding units that stays behind when moving as well as shipconversions could potentially be displayed wrong. I´ll continue with those :-)

Thanks for reporting!

Ok, fixed for leftover units + ships.
Let me know if you somehow can get the "Target has changed" error again in a version 0.91 game :-)

Thanks for reporting, I hope this is the last we have seen of this annoying error :-)

I hope so too, but well, I don't know why, but I've got the feeling that it'll come back to haunt us! :)

Edit:

But at least not very often! Tried a 1vs1 vs AI and couldn't get "target has changed" even when I tried! So thumbs up!

I got this error today in a 0.91 game.

In this case it was a lookout tower that belonged to a Yellow AI. I eliminated him on my turn. On my next turn the lookout tower remained Yellow (it remained in my view the entire time so I didn't have to unfog it) and when I clicked to move to attack it I got the Target has Changed error. A refresh showed the tower as now neutral (instead of yellow) and I was able to attack it just fine.

Also on an unrelated note, it seems the AI has problems attacking towers/cities that are right next to ports. I see this in the Westeros map where there are lots of towers/cities right next to ports (esp in the Iron Islands on the left side of the map). The AI will accumulate entire stacks of 8 units on a boat sitting on the port and never attack the tower / city next to it (it remained there for at least 4+ turns on more than one occasion). My guess is because the AI is having trouble converting from boat to attack mode because there must be some message about exiting boat mode that the AI can't quite figure out what to do with before it gets to attack mode.

Aha, bug confirmed. Will work on a solution and let you know when it is ready.

Could you let me know game and the AI color next time you see this? I would like to check the AIs paths etc to try to figure out what is going on...

Thanks!
