Can anyone shed some light on how to loot ruins with a barb? How many points in different level ruins are necessary to have a relatively safe results?

L1 - 12
L2 - 22
L3 - 33

In all seriousness, L1 you are 100% safe at 11 (see Chazars post about a rounding error) until a bug is fixed. I typically search once I get 9+ UL which is 1 Ghost or 3 Scouts for me. I virtually never search L2 ruins with a Barb unless I've managed to acquire a bunch of Ghosts/Wizards to accompany him so that his UL is 16+. I've never searched a L3 ruin with a Barb unless I know what the guardians are or I know the reward is allies.

You should not be putting any points in UL for a Barb until after you have him at 150% learning and flying (unless he has a flying mount) which means L7+.

I haven't had a Barb +2 scouts die at a level 1 yet. Maybe I've just been lucky, but that extra wound seems to save his barbaric behind every time.

The Barb really does need to hit the books early though. Once I get to level 5, raising intelligence is no longer a priority.

I often choose barbarian as first hero, and he seach ruins. Easy ruins with 2-3 scouts, middle ruins when he got +2 added UL to be +10 UL and with 5-7 scouts, totally 10-17 UL. Almost never searched high danger ruins with barbarian, may be one or two times.

L1 ruins are a good way to level up L1 Barbarian. Just about any decent city pose some danger for a solo Barbarian anyway. So I would rather search L1 ruin with 8-UL Barbarian for leveling up than attack any two turn unit in a neutral city.

Yes, at 11UL you are safe in L1 as long as the rounding error is not fixed. A hero with UL10 won't die against skeletons, but may die against ghouls (although the chances are small <6%).

Barbarians, are only a little bit more safe due to their additional HP:
UL HP 3Ghouls(5)
06 3 51.0%
07 3 68.0%
08 3 83.1%
09 3 93.8%
10 3 99.0%
11 3 100.0%

This table also relies on the rounding error as it is now in ver0.91

:( What I strongly dislike is how much difference a single scout/point of UL makes. I think the survival chances should decline much less steep (i.e. slightly higher chances at UL8 and below would be good for the game)!

For other levels, I lost the overview what undead to expect. For an example, 16UL, 3HP against 3 Mummys at (10/2) and ruin dice 20 was 79.7% survival chance, but as far as I understand, the ruin dice and undead were changed recently.

My Wiki sections on ruins are now posted (though they need a css update so they don't look so crappy).

In the Battles section you'll find a handy calculator that shows the chances of surviving all the possible guardian encounters (assuming bug is fixed) based on any UL/Hit combination.

Did you find it in the Wiki under Ruins - Battles? Just go and type in 27 in the first box (Undead lore). The 2 hits is already filled out. As soon as you finish typing the 27 it will update the table to the right with all the odds.

Note: There is a small bug in the 4 Vampire case (it's reporting the 3 vampire value). I should have it fixed tomorrow.

Ruin battle feature is a great work, thanks a lot. Based on the table, I think 25 UL is too risky for the L3 ruin, 28 shows acceptable risk and 31 is good UL.
